Abstract

This review paper describes detection of antimicrobial resistance, with a special emphasis on molecular methods. Included is an overview of antimicrobials including history, use, classification and mechanism of action. Also described antimicrobial resistance with the explanation of mechanism, factors that contribute the emergence, spreading of resistance gene and Ethiopian status of antimicrobial resistance is highlighted. In addition different antimicrobial susceptibility testing are illustrated. Finally molecular methods of antimicrobial resistance detection are presented.
